Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH)
The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) was founded in 2000 and is the largest research centre in Northern Greece with the mission to carry out basic and applied research with special emphasis on exploiting research results and developing new products and services with industrial, economic and social impact. In 2012, CERTH was ranked first among all research centres in Greece regarding the absorbed funding from the FP7-ICT Programme during the period 2007-2011. CERTH will participate in iINTEGRATE with 2 Institutes, the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) and the the Information Technologies Institute (ITI).
The Institute of Applied Biosciences (CERTH-INAB) aims to bridge the gap between biomedical research excellence and applications meeting the evolving needs of the end-user. CERTH-INAB has an extensive network of collaborations throughout Greece, neighbouring countries, Europe and the rest of the world with joint activities with more than 15 academic and research institutions in Greece, public agencies and private companies in more than 80 research programs. The INAB team that participates in INTEGRATE has experience in conducting research in the area of translational medicine, empowered by biomedical informatics with a major emphasis on the development of health information systems and eHealth / telehealth applications. CERTH-INAB’s areas of expertise relevant with the INTEGRATE activities include knowledge transfer and management, design and development of health information systems with emphasis on integrated care and mobile health systems, as well design and conduction of pilot studies in health. The above competences enable CERTH-INAB to conduct research in a broad range of health-related areas and applications spanning from concept design to development and evaluation in real-life settings.
The Information Technologies Institute (ITI) was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organisation under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of Greece, with its head office located in Thessaloniki, Greece. Since 10.3.2000 it is a founding member of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) also supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT). CERTH-ITI has demonstrated important scientific and technological achievements in many areas including Human Computer Interaction, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Multimedia, Database and Information Systems, Social Media Analysis, Cultural and Educational Technology, as well as several cross-disciplinary scientific areas. CERTH-ITI has participated in more than 60 research projects funded by the European Commission and more than 85 research projects funded by Greek National Research Programmes and Consulting Subcontracts with the Private Sector (I&T Industry). In 2015, the Information Technologies Institute attracted a revenue of 15.5 M€ from European Horizon 2020 R&D projects. CERTH-INAB’s areas of expertise relevant with the INTEGRATE activities include knowledge management platforms and the design and development of mHealth applications.
